This is some of the diy repairs I find at customers homes on their hot water boiler heating systems. Not so much with forced air systems. I applaud homeowners doing their own maintenance and upkeep, even minor repairs but leave the major repairs to a licensed and boiler specialists. I say specialists due to more and more heating and cooling companies do not work on boilers anymore. Many customers have told me they’ve called in the past other big name companies and as soon as the customer mentions they have a boiler, the company tells them they don’t work on boilers. Another issue is customers need to realize the boiler piping and controls are separate from the actual boiler. When quoting boiler replacement, usually the “near piping” with auto water feeder, zone valves, back flow preventer are not included. Usually if they are working, not heavily corroded or leaking it is not necessary to replace these controls and components with boiler.
